50 Book Challenge, 2011

This is where I’ll be blogging about the 50 (or more) books I plan to read this year, and the challenge is co-opted from the PrettyBooks tumblr.  Some of the books will have little blurbs next to them… others may not if I find that I don’t have much to say.  Normally I’d say 50 books in one year is a fraction of what I’d read, but college definitely slows me down, so I’ll also be counting any non-textbook book that I read for school.

1. Prince of Fire, by Daniel Silva.  I didn’t like this one as much as the last book of his I read… it hit a little too close to home.  Still good, though.

2. The Messenger, by Daniel Silva.

3. Enchanted Hunters: The Power of Stories in Childhood, by Maria Tatar.  This was required reading for a class I ended up dropping at the very start of freshman year, and since the book was lying around I decided to finally read it.  Interesting, but a tad repetitive.

4. The Secret Servant, by Daniel Silva.

5. Moscow Rules, by Daniel Silva.

6. The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks, by E. Lockhart.

7. Little Miss Red, by Robin Palmer.

8. Heist Society, by Ally Carter.

9. The Defector, by Daniel Silva.

10. Scarlett Fever, by Maureen Johnson. 1/5 done!! WOO!!

11. Reality Check, by Jen Calonita.

12. Tinkering Toward Utopia, by David Tyack and Larry Cuban.  This was the first book for my History of Education Reform class… super interesting.

13. Changing Schools, by Arthur Zilversmit.  Another Ed Reform book.

14. Tested: One American School Struggles to Make the Grade, by Linda Perlstein.  Yet another Ed Reform book, but I absolutely loved this one.  I decided not to sell it back to the bookstore at the end of the semester.

15. Insatiable, by Meg Cabot.

16. Jenna and Jonah’s Fauxmance, by Emily Franklin and Brendan Halpin.

17. Little Black Lies, by Tish Cohen.

18. The Girls’ Guide to Hunting and Fishing, by Melissa Bank.

19. The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, by Aimee Bender.  This book left me confused.  I am currently looking for reviews that delineate the ending more clearly, because I can’t figure it out at all.

20. Beneath a Starlet Sky, by Amanda Goldberg and Ruthanna Khalighi Hopper.

21. Cinderella Ate My Daughter, by Peggy Orenstein.  SO GOOD.  SO SO GOOD.  And I don’t consider myself feminist at all.

22. Beverly Hills Adjacent, by Jennifer Steinhauer and Jessica Hendra.

23. Overexposed, by Susan Shapiro.

24. Dangerous Admissions, by Jane O’Connor.

25. The Devil Wears Prada, by Lauren Weisberger.  HALF DONE!!!

26. In the Basement of the Ivory Tower, by Professor X.

27. The Cinderella Pact, by Sarah Strohmeyer.

28. Prospect Park West, by Amy Sohn.

29. The Yiddish Policemen’s Union, by Michael Chabon.

30. The Rehearsal, by Eleanor Catton.

31. Little Lady, Big Apple, by Hester Browne.

32. How to Buy a Love of Reading, by Tanya Egan Gibson.

33. The Help, by Kathryn Stockett.

34. Good in Bed, by Jennifer Weiner.

35. Hotel No Tell, by Daphne Uviller.

36. The Wedding Girl, by Madeline Wickham.

37. Something Borrowed, by Emily Giffin.

38. America Pacifica, by Anna North.  I kind of figured how this was going to end as I got closer and closer to the last page, but I was still left a little unsatisfied and wanting more.

39. Big Girl Small, by Rachel DeWoskin.

40. Bossypants, by Tina Fey.

41. Blink, by Malcolm Gladwell.

42. Naked, by David Sedaris.

43. I Know I Am, But What Are You?, by Samantha Bee.

44. The Sleeping Beauty Proposal, by Sarah Strohmeyer.

45. Concierge Confidential, by Michael Fazio.

46. Wedlocked, by Bonnie Trachtenberg. Cute story but OMG SO MANY TYPOS IN THE BOOK I CAN’TTT.

47. Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen. AMAZING.

48. Certain Girls, by Jennifer Weiner.

49. Admissions, by Nancy Lieberman.

50. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, by Steig Larsson.

DONE!!!!
